Ball Transfer Units

Ball Transfer units allow multi-directional movement of goods between conveyor lines or workstations. Balls are 1" diameter with a 50 lb. capacity. The push force required to move a product over a ball depends primarily on the weight and condition of the product being conveyed. It may require a force of anywhere from 2% to 15% of the product weight. For example, a 200 lb. product could require between 4 lbs. and 30 lbs. of force to move across the ball transfers.

Standard Lengths: No cutting charge on units supplied in 1'-0" increments, 1'-0" to 10"-0" long.
Special Lengths Available: Per foot price, plus $10.00 list.

Specifications:

Ball Assemblies: 1"dia. steel ball x 1 13/16" overall housing diameter. Mounting bolt is 1/4"-20.
Frames: 3 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 10 ga. steel with balls in set high position (1/4" above side frames) only.
Plates: Balls are attached to 10 ga. formed plates up to 39" BF. Above 39", plates are 7 ga.
Ball Centers: Units are standard with balls on 2", 3", 4" or 6" spacing.
Ball Spacing: A minimum of 9 ball casters are required supporting each package. To determine center to center ball spacing required, divide your minimum package dimension by 2.5.
Capacity: 50 lbs. per ball with max. unit load not to exceed the capacity of 4 balls (200#). Frame capacity is 1300 lbs. maximum distributed live load with supports on 10' centers; 3200 lbs. with supports on 5' centers.

Ball Transfer Systems

Ball Transfer Systems use rotating balls seated individually within metal flanged cylinders that are on top or inset into a worksurface. The balls are made of stainless steel, and have a smooth uniform surface so they easily rotate in place. Each ball unit is capable of lifting up to 20 lbs. There are two types of ball transfer systems.

Typical Ball Pattern Configurations
IAC uses Ball Transfer Systems that have been specifically designed for integration with workstations. Pattern configurations can be customized according to your needs and applications. Consult Material Flow with your specific requirements.

Fixed: Designed for simple transport of objects across the worksurface.
Pneumatic “pop-up” or “retractable”: Designed for applications in which the worksurface sees duty for both transport and as a work area.
